1. One of only eight universities to secure prestigious international funding

   LJMU has been awarded approximately £490,000 from Research England’s first ever International Investment Initiative (I3). The award has been jointly made to LJMU and The University of Western Australia (UWA) for the international collaboration project, i-CARDIO. The project has a dual focus; the first component is the delivery of workshops to develop innovative ways to detect cardiovascular diseases for preventative intervention using imaging techniques. The second element is the evaluation of Australia’s model of accreditation of clinical exercise scientists and physiologists. The accreditation incorporates university and work place-based learning to enable graduates to secure roles in the healthcare system as recognised allied health professionals.

3. Monocled Mutineer revisited

   Honorary Fellow Paul McGann returned to the University for a special public event, presented by the School of Humanities and Social Science and as part of the University’s Merseyside at War project, to commemorate the acclaimed BBC drama in which he starred, the Monocled Mutineer.

4. LJMU awarded £44,000 to promote chemistry to school pupils in hard to reach areas

   LJMU has been awarded £44,000 to expand an innovative chemistry outreach scheme to encourage young people from 11 schools across deprived areas of Liverpool City Region, to become the scientists of the future.

5. Premier League sports psychologists attend Football Exchange conference

   The Football Exchange, from the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, hosted its first ‘Psychology of Football’ conference. The event, endorsed by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES), was attended by over 120 delegates, including representatives from every English Premier League club, the Scottish Leagues and women’s football, with practitioners travelling from across the UK, Holland, Denmark, Estonia, Norway, Germany, Slovenia, Portugal, Poland and the US.

6. Galaxy Zoo allows public to zoom in on Universe discoveries

   Researchers at the LJMU Astrophysics Research Institute have recently joined Galaxy Zoo, a 'citizen science' driven astronomy project.

7. School of Justice Studies hosts students from Singapore University of Social Sciences

   The two-week summer school helped broaden the understanding of policing and the criminal justice system.

8. LJMU achieves its highest ever ranking in The Complete University Guide League Table

   Liverpool John Moores University achieved its highest ever ranking in the The Complete University Guide 2019 league tables, published today (Wednesday 25 April 2018).

9. University welcomes national drive for social mobility

   Liverpool John Moores University has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing social mobility, as Universities UK (UUK) publishes a report by the Social Mobility Taskforce, which makes national recommendations for boosting access to higher education.

    A new project combining cutting edge astronomy with performance art was premiered at the European Week of Astronomy & Space Science (EWASS), organised by the European Astronomical Society and the Royal Astronomical Society in Liverpool on 3rd April.
