2. Menopause cafes throughout 2024

   This year we will once again host four menopause cafes for our staff, with the first taking place on Tuesday 16 January, and anyone wishing to attend can book via the staff wellbeing events page.

3. A timely reflection on Liverpool and our lives

   At a time when COVID 19 has made people fearful, isolated or alone, Jeff Youngs new book, Ghost Town, offers not only a fascinating read but also a reflection on all those things that are important to us, our families, friends and communities. Its a deeply felt and beautifully written journey through Jeffs Liverpool childhood, the adult writer stalking Liverpool alone or with friends, searching for a past lost, regained, remembered so viscerally that the reader feels intimately connected to the child Jeff longing to leave the hospital where hes had his tonsils removed or to the older man out walking with writer friend, Horatio Clare, in search of de Quincey in Everton.

4. World Book Day 2024: Reading Rivers

   Final-year creative writing student Kayla Marsh sat down with seven members of staff to discuss their ‘Reading Rivers’ – from the books never finished to the books that evoked tears.

6. Lecturer’s new book examines security at sports mega-events amid the pandemic

   International Relations and Politics with Sociology Lecturer, Dr Jan Ludvigsen, shared insights from his book this week with the LJMU community ahead of its release on Friday 8 April.

7. Enhancing Research Through Ethical Review

   Debate, discussion and deliberation characterised the first ‘Inside the Research Ethics Committee’ workshop which took place recently and attracted researchers from across the University.

8. Students and residents tackle obesity with community cookbook

   Residents from Kirkby in Knowsley and LJMU Nutrition students have created a brand-new cookbook with a Mediterranean-inspired diet to help try and curb the issue of obesity and its associated health risks, such as fatty liver disease

9. New book tracks nursing care in the Soviet Union

   LJMUs Dr Susan Grant has spent the last decade researching and tracing the history of nursing care in the Soviet Union, with her discoveries now documented in a new publication Soviet Nightingales: Care under Communism.

10. Coffee and Connections

    The next Coffee and Connections event takes place on Thursday 12th September at Exchange Station from 8.15am.
