1. Industry trip wins Data Science students €25,000

   Young research students who won a major European data science competition have shared a prize of 50,000!

2. Exciting development opportunity for women to undertake action learning with peers from North West universities

   We are pleased to offer this development opportunity for up to 15 women working in academic and professional services roles to take part in cross institutional action learning sets with peers from universities in the North West region. Action learning provides a unique space for women to support each other to overcome work and career related challenges. This opportunity has been taken up previously by 150 women. Participant feedback includes: it was not role specific, so there were a range of individuals with different roles/skills/perspective which enriched my experience and It provided a rare opportunity to discuss issues confidentially outside of ones own workplace which helped me to develop more self-confidence and self-awareness.

3. Honour Based Abuse, Female Genital Mutilation and Forced Marriage conference held in partnership with Savera UK 

   LJMU equality and diversity team worked in partnership with SaveraUK to host an inspiring HBA, FGM and FM event in November 2019.

4. Voice Acting Scholarships

   Voquent.com are a multilingual voice acting agency based in London, UK. They've created the Voquent Voice Acting Scholarship to give one lucky student everything they need to work in the voice acting industry.

5. Marine engineering academic wins prestigious research prize

   The Director of the Liverpool Logistics Offshore and Marine Research Institute at Liverpool John Moores University - Prof. Jin Wang - has been awarded the prestigious 2018 IMechE Award for Risk Reduction in Mechanical Engineering.

6. Nearly £3k raised in first week of NSS

   A huge thank you to everyone who has helped us to raise a fantastic £2,950 for charity by completing the National Student Survey (NSS) in the first week.

7. Student finance reminder

   If you are an undergraduate student and are continuing on your course in September 2019, don’t forget to reapply for your student finance as soon as possible.

8. Research shows holidays offered by The Royal British Legion significantly improve well-being

   LJMU researchers have carried out a major national study on behalf of The Royal British Legion which shows the breaks and holidays they offer military veterans and their families hugely improves their mental health and well-being.

9. Face Lab wins Research Team of the Year

   Liverpool John Moores University’s Face Lab has scooped the 2019 Educate North Research Team of the Year Award, for its innovative techniques in craniofacial identification and forensic art.

10. Family judge for Cheshire and Merseyside hosts first LAC public debate event

    Her Honour Judge Margaret de Haas QC hosted the first public debate held by LJMU’s Legal Advice Centre, which focused on the legal rights of grandparents.
