1. Climate institute planning under way

   Colleagues from the across the university have this week come together to begin scoping out the proposed new LJMU climate institute.

2. LJMU Climate Research Institute

   Staff are invited to attend a second workshop focussed on the proposed LJMU Climate Research Institute. It follows the successful design sprint session held in December, in which colleagues with research interests in the area met to begin scoping out the planned institute.

3. Improvement works at John Foster Building

   Next month (June 2022), we will begin a programme of improvement works to John Foster Building, which means it will be closed for a period over the summer.

4. LJMU presented with gold award for support of the Armed Forces community

   The university was officially presented with the award at a ceremony at the city’s Liver Building.

5. Dr. Emma Roberts, Reader in History of Art & Design, publishes article in Harvard University journal.

   Dr. Emma Roberts, Reader in History of Art & Design at Liverpool School of Art & Design, has published an article in the Harvard University journal, 'ReVista: The Harvard Review of Latin America'. The article discusses the important topic of public sculptures in the Caribbean on the theme of emancipation from slavery. 

6. First Step Spring Internships available for Level 4 students

   A new pilot internship programme for first year students (level 4 only) with little to no previous work experience launched on Monday 15 January and close at midnight on Sunday 4 February. There will be no interview process for these opportunities, the Student Futures team will undertake a matching process between participating organisations and students. The internships will begin on Monday 4 March (start dates may vary for each role).

7. People who gamble face many forms of prejudice

   LJMU begins in-depth study of stigmas funded by charity GambleAware

8. Black History Month 2021

   It is essential that our university honours significant dates to the Black community. LJMU's Anita Awotunde looks at the history, why it's important and the plans for 2021.

9. Majority of April and May exams to be held online

   Most exams in April and May 2022 will be held online. There are a small number of examinations which will be held in-person due to specific requirements of the professional body.

10. Baroness Amos discusses challenges of the UN

    Baroness Valerie Amos, Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, United Nations, delivered a Roscoe Lecture entitled ‘The role of the United Nations in a world riven by conflict, poverty and hunger.’
