Mariama undertakes outreach work for the university, working with schools across the country to establish meaningful connections that help young students to realise their academic and personal potential. Inspired by her early life experiences, moving from Africa to Northern Ireland, and then the opportunities afforded to her by LJMU during her own studies, she is determined to help others and act as a role model.

At LJMU, we’re making efforts to address our water usage by installing efficient water dispensers, harvesting rainwater and using low-flush toilets in our buildings across campuses. Locally, we are promoting sustainable energy on Hilbre Island and internationally we are proud to champion the voices of islanders in the Philippines through documentaries shared at the United Nations World Ocean’s Day.
After working in collaboration, the Black and Asian Minority Ethnic Staff Network, the Black and Asian Minority Ethnic Student Network, and Diversity and Inclusion team have achieved.
