1. Directed Study Week: 4-8 March 2019

   Directed Study Week is an exciting programme of workshops and webinars designed to help students study more effectively and get better results.

2. New Reading List Management System Launched.

   In January 2015 Library Services piloted the use of a reading list management system, Rebus:List with 27 academics across the University with a soft launch that Summer.

3. Marine engineering academic wins prestigious research prize

   The Director of the Liverpool Logistics Offshore and Marine Research Institute at Liverpool John Moores University - Prof. Jin Wang - has been awarded the prestigious 2018 IMechE Award for Risk Reduction in Mechanical Engineering.

4. Discoveries of faint galaxies using supernovae

   Tom Sedgwick, PhD student at the Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI), part of LJMU,has with a team of ARI astronomers discovered 140 ‘new’galaxies, with findings due to be published in April’s edition of the prestigious journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

5. International Conference on Mixed Methods Research (ICMMR 2019)

   Prof Padam Simkhada, Professor of International Public Health at the Public Health Institute, Liverpool John Moores University, delivered the keynote speech in the International Conference on Mixed Methods Research (ICMMR 2019) at the Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala, India on Saturday 23rd February 2019. Professor Simkhada also gave an inaugural speech on the implications of mixed methods on health service research during the conference inauguration ceremony.

6. New website course search function

   This week marks the launch of an exciting new development to our website. A project group have been working with an external agency (Sagittarius) to improve the course search function.

7. Enhancing Research Through Ethical Review

   Debate, discussion and deliberation characterised the first ‘Inside the Research Ethics Committee’ workshop which took place recently and attracted researchers from across the University.

8. Sexual Violence Awareness Week

   Throughout Sexual Violence Awareness Week (Monday 4th – Sunday 10th February), a new team of staff from Student Advice and Wellbeing Services were out and about across the University to talk to students and staff about the impact sexual violence and harassment has on individuals and communities

9. 5G technology used in Liverpool

   Margot James, Minister for Digital and Culture, this week visited Europe’s first dedicated 5G health and social care pilot, helping people live independently at home.

10. Nearly £3k raised in first week of NSS

    A huge thank you to everyone who has helped us to raise a fantastic £2,950 for charity by completing the National Student Survey (NSS) in the first week.
