   New research suggests domestic abuse victims are better served by schemes which prioritise safeguarding over prosecution.

3. Care experienced girls and young women still at risk of unnecessary criminalisation

   Girls and women who have been through the care system should be diverted away from custodial sentences into community alternatives wherever possible, says a new report published today (Weds 4 May 2022). And the study adds that moves to prevent the criminalisation of girls in care need to be high on the agenda for change.

   Liverpool John Moores University is set to train more people in diagnosing cancer thanks to a partnership with global optics firm Olympus.

9. LJMU PHD student Valeria Carini recognised at Pandemic Institute’s first Student Excellence Awards

   Valeria was presented the award alongside students from the University of Liverpool and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine with grants for scientific research, aimed to enhance preparedness for future pandemics.
