1. New website course search function

   This week marks the launch of an exciting new development to our website. A project group have been working with an external agency (Sagittarius) to improve the course search function.

   We need you to help us make our summer graduation ceremonies a success and give our students the celebrations they so richly deserve.

3. LJMU policing programmes "a model for the UK"

   Merseyside’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has described LJMU’s extensive education programmes in policing as “a model for the UK”.

4. #IDPD2019 - new development opportunities for staff

   LJMU to launch new Mental Health Awareness development opportunities for all staff in January 2020.

5. Melissa crowned Pulp Idol for teen pregnancy novel

   UP-and-coming novelist Melissa Grindon hailed LJMU's writing community after being crowned Pulp Idol by Liverpool literary organisation, Writing on the Wall.

6. Reciprocal Mentoring Programme involving BAME Staff, Black Students and Senior Leaders

   Given the success of last year's pilot, we are running the LJMU Reciprocal Mentoring Programme again and we are extending it to include BAME staff from across the institution. The programme is open to all LJMU Senior Staff from Director Level of non BAME Background and to BAME staff from non-Director Level and to Black Students from all Faculties.

7. Astronomers catch Tatooine multiple star system as it forms

   For the first time astronomers, including Dr Richard Parker, of the Astrophysics Research Institute at LJMU, have caught a multiple-star system as it is created, and their observations are providing new insight into how such systems, and possibly the solar system, are formed. The amazing images taken from a series of telescopes on Earth show clouds of gas which are in the process of developing into stars.

8. Cosmic fireworks as distant star ‘squeezed’ by massive black hole

   Daniel Perley and collaborators describe only third Black Hole 'tidal event' on astronomical record in the journal Nature

9. Gravitational wave science used to search for catastrophic explosion

   Researchers at the Astrophysics Research Institute were among the first to use new gravitational wave science, ahead of the recent announcement by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) that they had made the first direct detection of gravitational waves.

10. LJMU wins coveted Enterprising Britain Award 2016

    Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) has received praise for being the only university in the country, and the only organisation in the North, to win the Government’s annual Enterprising Britain Awards.
