1. Illegal fish trade challenged by new technology

   A GENETIC test developed at LJMU could have a dramatic effect on how the UK polices illegal fishing.

2. Exciting development opportunity for women to undertake action learning with peers from North West universities

   We are pleased to offer this development opportunity for up to 15 women working in academic and professional services roles to take part in cross institutional action learning sets with peers from universities in the North West region. Action learning provides a unique space for women to support each other to overcome work and career related challenges. This opportunity has been taken up previously by 150 women. Participant feedback includes: it was not role specific, so there were a range of individuals with different roles/skills/perspective which enriched my experience and It provided a rare opportunity to discuss issues confidentially outside of ones own workplace which helped me to develop more self-confidence and self-awareness.

3. Staff and students welcome changes to Highway Code that promote active travel

   Staff and students at LJMU have welcomed changes to the Highway Code that restructure the road hierarchy and prioritise walking and cycling.

4. LJMU students help the global fight against pneumonia

   Over 300 undergraduate and postgraduate LJMU students have registered their interest in clinical trials at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicines Accelerator Research Clinic (ARC) with many LJMU students having already taken part in a study.

   After 33 years of service, Julie Lloyd (Executive HR Director at LJMU) retires from the University. Julie is passionate about improving gender diversity and will offer tips on how to obtain a top leadership roles and how to promote gender diversity in senior positions.

   Millions of consumers could end up giving shopping-with-Alexa a miss unless  retailers improve the buying experience, according to new research published this week by Liverpool Business School.

7. Songs, stories and games earn history lecturer national recognition

   Singsongs, card games and radio shows would not normally be part of a History degree unless you are lucky enough to be taught by lecturer Lucinda Matthews-Jones, that is.

8. Responding to our Community and Neighbourhoods

   LJMU is proud of its place in Liverpool and we are at the beating heart of almost everything that happens in the region.  However, with that presence comes a responsibility to be mindful and aware of our potential impact. In partnership with the other universities in the city, LJMU has embarked on a number of initiatives to work with local residents.

   Monday 25th - Friday 29th November is Estranged Students Solidarity Week, a national campaign to raise awareness of the issues affecting students who are studying in higher education without the support of a family network.
