New PhD scholarships and thematic pathway to boost Research support

The Bicentennial Vice-Chancellor PhD scholarships are now open

Liverpool John Moores University are offering fully-funded 3-year PhD scholarships and launching a new thematic pathway programme with applications open now.

LJMU has a reputation for delivering pioneering research that is extending our knowledge and understanding across a diverse range of areas. Research is central to the student experience and informs our curriculum at all levels.

Support will be available for full-time, three-year studentships via the LJMU PhD scholarship scheme as well as some “fee only” part-time studentships over 6 years. Studentships will be available to applicants in all disciplines at the University where excellent research is being performed.

LJMU-Thematic Doctoral Pathways programme

LJMU is piloting an internal Thematic Doctoral Pathway (TDP) to develop our own programmes of cohort-PhD offer.  This will support research excellence, enhance our reputation for outstanding training and research opportunities for postgraduate students, and directly underpin external applications to join funded Doctoral Training Programmes.

The consolidation of UKRI funded Doctoral Training Programmes across UK HEIs has created a ‘gold standard’ for PhD studentships. Doctoral training consortia with an inbuilt structured, cohort-style doctoral experience have become an established mechanism for investment in doctoral training.

Applications for both close 5pm on 19 September 2022.

LJMU Research

LJMU ranks in the top half of the overall research league table, placed 46th out of 129 universities for research power - the overall quality of our submission multiplied by the full-time equivalent number of researchers submitted.
