Joint staff and student project wins digital privacy award
LJMU has won an award at the PICCASO Privacy Awards Europe 2023 for a Privacy and Digital Security project created by staff and students.
The Bridging the Privacy and Security Gap Award was presented to Tina Forrester, Data Protection Officer and the LJMU team, plus five LJMU students for their work on the project: Taynie Featherstone Brooke and Harry Durn (School ofLaw), Luiza Darolti, Megan Davies and Frankie Pivaro (Liverpool Screen School).
Tina Forrester said: “We are delighted to win this award. Many organisations work in silos on important matters such as privacy and security. This award not only acknowledges our collaboration at LJMU but also the hard work from staff and students to raise awareness of the importance of digital security.
“I’d like to thank Peter Ashton, John Pennington and our colleagues in IT Services for all the great work we do together and to everyone who made this project such a success, including Sarah Haynes, Paula Baines, Track Dinning, Carlo Panara, Rachel Stalker and Phil Vickerman. To our fabulous students too for their input and creativity and to Phil Carey & Liz Clifford for supporting the curriculum enhancement.”
“Hopefully the LJMU community has now seen our seagull mascot around campus, so if any colleagues would like to get involved in the campaign do get in touch with the Data Protection team.
About the Privacy and Digital Security Project
The PICCASSO Privacy Award is an acknowledgement of the work at LJMU to staff and students to raise awareness of protecting your data online. LJMU’s Data Protection team has worked with law, business and media production students to create a campaign across the university to highlight how to stay one step ahead of cybercrime. You may have seen a pesky seagull popping up on digital screens and around campus at events highlighting the tools and techniques you can use to keep your data safe including.
To highlight the importance of having a strong password and not using the same ones for multiple accounts, students have created several awareness videos for the project.
You can out more about looking after your privacy and digital security on the LJMU website.
