A statement from the Liverpool Vice-Chancellors

A joint statement from the Vice-Chancellors of Liverpool John Moores University, University of Liverpool and Liverpool Hope University:

Our communities stand together in condemning the racist riots that have taken place across Liverpool and the UK over the past week. As city leaders we are committed to working together and with the wider community to take practical steps, in a calm and collaborative way, to move forward from this current situation.

These events are not representative of Liverpool and its communities.  Our city and our universities are proudly international, warm and welcoming, and it is heartbreaking for us to witness a very small minority undermine this reputation in such an appalling way.  We are committed to working together and with our police forces to ensure that no-one feels unsafe in the city and we are optimistic that there will be a swift end to the recent disturbances.

Professor Mark Power, Vice-Chancellor, Liverpool John Moores University

Professor Tim Jones, Vice Chancellor, University of Liverpool

Professor Claire Ozanne, Vice Chancellor, Liverpool Hope University
