LJMU launches Autodesk Certification suite for construction degrees
LJMU is one of the first UK universities to offer Construction and Property students a full online learning solution, practice tests and globally industry-recognised Autodesk Certification.
Autodesk is a key software suite of project management tools, described as an ‘absolute must’ for people going onto building and built environment management careers.
In industry the software solves complex workflow and design challenges, allowing construction projects to organise resources, human and material, to an optimum degree.
LJMU will equip students with essential skills in AutoCAD and Revit—the two leading software tools in the Construction Industry and additionally the Building Information Modelling (BIM) sector.
Authorised test centre
By offering the suite, LJMU becomes an authorised testing centre allowing students to achieve their certifications in parallel to their HNC, degree, degree apprenticeship or Masters.
Spencer Kelly, Senior Lecturer, School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment, said: “We already teach the process of Building Information Modelling (BIM) at all levels.
This new development is an invaluable add-on, which will enhance their ability to stand out and excel in a competitive job market.
“Once we are happy with students’ competency levels in Revit and AutoCAD, they can begin taking the practice tests, refresh with the online training material, and be ready for their exams which we hold onsite.”
Prodigy Learning
Developed in partnership with Prodigy Learning and spearheaded by Spencer Kelly, Andrew Lenehan, and Michael Farragher, the programme will certify initially over 125 students across the construction and property disciplines which include: HNC, Architectural Technology, Building Surveyors, Architectural Engineering, Building Services Engineering and at master’s with essential, industry-standard software expertise.
Spencer added: “The portal features video training courses and step-by-step guides grounded in real-world applications, ensuring students are fully prepared for both academic and professional challenges.
As the product of a strong collaboration, the Training Portal bridges the gap between theory and practice. Its flexible and scalable design ensures it can adapt to future updates in both software and industry practices, keeping students at the cutting edge of technological innovation.
Andrew Lenehan, Regional Account Manager, Prodigy Learning said: “Prodigy Learning are delighted to partner with LJMU to provide these vital qualifications to students. Having a vendor certification on their CV, as well as a degree from a top university like LJMU will ensure students really stand out in the competitive graduate job market. As well as an official Autodesk certificate, students also receive a Digital badge which they can display on their LinkedIn profile and CV to increase their visibility to recruiters are searching for graduates with these in demand skills. “
'Competitive edge'
Professor Mike Riley, Director of the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment at LJMU said “The Autodesk Certified User Program will empower our students to master industry-leading design tools, opening doors to creative innovation and career advancement. At LJMU, we are committed to producing graduates with a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving job market.”
