Quantity Surveying and Construction Management programmes prove international quality

Liverpool John Moores University students from the Quantity Surveying and Construction Management programmes have won the 2015 Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) International Student Competition.

This was the first time the School of the Built Environment had entered the challenge, which includes teams from all over the world.

Working in teams of four, the Construction Management students were given six hours to work on a brief as though they were the construction company on a real-life construction project currently underway at Dublin Airport.  Each team then presented their response to the challenge to a panel of industry adjudicators.

Professor Michael Riley, Head of Department, Built Environment, commented:

"This excellent achievement really highlights how well our students are prepared for the real-life challenges of the modern built environment professions. We have worked extremely hard to develop strong industry connections that enhance a rigorous, research informed curriculum. The fact that our students have performed so well in international competition is an illustration of the importance of this approach; we are exceptionally proud of them."

Quantity Surveying and Construction Management student Andy Grain commented:

"The ASC Region 8 competition was the opportunity to showcase the capabilities that we have developed. The skills acquired during my studies and  an industry placement have allowed me to tackle many challenges.  Achieving first place is a testament to the teaching quality within the Built Environment at LJMU.

The two-day 2015 ASC International Student Competition was hosted in DIT Bolton Street last week, with  competitors from DIT, CIT, Oklahoma University, Auburn University, CalPoly State University, Birmingham City University, and Liverpool John Moores University.
