Living Black at University

Commissioned by Unite Students, this research explores the experiences of Black students across university accommodation and private halls of residence, amplifying their voices and stories to the wider Higher Education sector. From its challenging findings, Unite Students is calling on universities and student accommodation providers to collaborate across the Higher Education sector and take meaningful action to address these issues.

As a first step of answering this call, LJMU held a Living Black at University: Symposium.

This symposium brought together students, academics and professionals working in universities and student accommodation providers in Liverpool to discuss the findings and recommendations of Living Black at University in the context of ongoing decolonisation practice within higher education. Participants were encouraged to think collaboratively about how they can go further to embed a sense of inclusion and belonging across the HEI-PBSA partnership.

Next, we meet to discuss how LJMU can use these findings and create action within our university.
