Liverpool Centre for Olympic Research on Inclusion (LCORI)
The Liverpool Centre for Olympic Research on Inclusion (LCORI) are part of the global network of Olympic Study Centres and the first of its kind in the world to focus exclusively on inclusion.
About LCORI
Our vision is a global community in which everyone is included and able to participate in society, regardless of their ability, gender, ethnicity or socio-economic background, and where change is encouraged and celebrated to deliver this inclusive global community.
We are increasingly witnessing a shift away from prioritising purely economic objectives as the key rationale for hosting events, due to limited evidence of financial return on investment. Instead, focus is moving toward employing events to expose and tackle the social injustices of everyday life. Yet, incidents of the exclusive nature of events regularly appear, indicating that social justice and inclusion of events is a vision and not the current state of affairs.
Liverpool John Moores University is committed to a more inclusive future and finding creative solutions to address the challenges of social justice to create a society open and welcome to all.
Based at Liverpool John Moores University, we are proudly rooted in the Liverpool City Region, but with a global presence. Through LCORI, we have created a community with a commitment to working in partnership with our partners on an inclusive and positive future for all of those around us.
Aims
The purpose of LCORI is to advance knowledge and practice related to inclusion and participation for all in events, and the impact this may have on society as a whole. To achieve this purpose, five objectives have been devised:
- To educate key stakeholders and raise awareness on the value of inclusion of marginalised members of society through events.
- Deliver an exceptional learning experience for our students and innovate across LJMU courses/progs by integrating LCORI activities.
- To advocate for and improve inclusion practices of the Olympism 365 strategy and its values in wider society beyond sports and events, linking directly to the Sustainable Development Goals.
- To develop a database and expertise through research and consultancy that can be distributed globally and used for transformation related to inclusion in events, and society more broadly, in all countries within the Olympic family.
- Engage and include the local community in all our public facing activities.
