1. My Liverpool: New executive portraits capture personal stories

   Personal reflections on our great city of Liverpool underpin a new suite of portraits of the Vice-Chancellor and the Executive Leadership Team.

2. Exciting development opportunity for women to undertake action learning with peers from North West universities

   We are pleased to offer this development opportunity for up to 15 women working in academic and professional services roles to take part in cross institutional action learning sets with peers from universities in the North West region. Action learning provides a unique space for women to support each other to overcome work and career related challenges. This opportunity has been taken up previously by 150 women. Participant feedback includes: it was not role specific, so there were a range of individuals with different roles/skills/perspective which enriched my experience and It provided a rare opportunity to discuss issues confidentially outside of ones own workplace which helped me to develop more self-confidence and self-awareness.

3. £1.2m win for LJMU as Science and Technology Facilities Council supports cutting edge research at ARI

   The Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI) has won a £1.2m grant from the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), to support cutting-edge research at Liverpool John Moores University

4. Forgetting the beginning of a story might be early sign of dementia

   Researchers from Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, think that struggling to recall narratives might be a sign of dementia.

5. Registration open for conference on decolonial approaches to teaching and research

   A mini-conference highlighting developments in decolonial approaches to teaching and research across the university featuring three sessions of talks and discussion on decolonising pedagogy, assessment and research methods, will take place in November.

6. New study suggests explanations for usage of plesiosaurs’ long necks

   Plesiosaurs are an extinct group of marine reptiles from the age of dinosaurs who are famous for their long necks. The effect of such long necks on how these animals swam is a mystery but now computer simulations are helping LJMU scientists understand what would happen if a plesiosaur turned its head while swimming.

   A number of LJMU staff policies have been updated.

8. LJMU policing programmes "a model for the UK"

   Merseyside’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has described LJMU’s extensive education programmes in policing as “a model for the UK”.

9. Are you ready for National Student Money Week?

   During week commencing Monday 3 February 2020, LJMU will be taking part in National Student Money Week. The theme for this year is 'Spend Healthy, Live Healthy: Sustainable Money' and during the week we will focus on reducing waste and saving money.
