Our interest lies in the evolution of animal societies and the interactions that occur within these societies and their link to emotion, cognition and communication. We primarily study primates (including humans) but also other species including birds. Established in 2022, the Centre for Modern and Contemporary History (CMCH) supports the research of LJMU's historians, strengthens our partnerships with museums and historical societies and creates opportunities for new collaborations with researchers and historical institutions locally, nationally and internationally.
LJMU is committed to creating peaceful and inclusive societies. On campus, we support Armed Forces Day and we’re recognised under the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme. Locally, we’ve partnered with the Merseyside Police, raising the standard of policing in Merseyside. Nationally, LJMU AI researchers helped to solve murder case using a deep learning method originally developed for eco-conservation.
Dr Sasha Kosanic is an interdisciplinary scientist whose research focuses on answering complex questions about climate change and the impact it is having on nature and societies. She is also an advocate for inclusion in education, as a former Paralympian and a scientist living with Cerebral Palsy, she looks to highlight inequalities wherever she finds them and to drive forwards change in research and academia.
