1. Work under way to transform Byrom Street

   The university has begun work on a series of major projects to continue the transformation of our Byrom Street site for the benefit of students and staff.

2. degree apprenticeships

   LJMU is set to expand its successful degree apprenticeship programmes after being awarded significant new funding. The university has received £1m from the Office for Students’ national fund to support level 6 degree apprenticeships.

3. Eight students compete in Archon University Fitness League

   Eight LJMU students took part in an Archon Fittest Universities Event in Birmingham earlier this month, with student Jordan McCarthy placing first across the leaderboard in the STRONG category.

4. New book aims to promote gender equality and celebrate inspirational women in Nepal

   An online book, which aims to change the narrative of women in Nepal and celebrate those who have inspired positive change has been created to help shape research and development projects in low and middle income countries.

5. Thought-provoking Roscoe Lecture

   Journalist and human rights activist, Rebecca Tinsley, delivered a thought-provoking Roscoe Lecture which delved into the human psyche, asking if genocide is part of our nature.

6. Faculty of Health sets out its ambitions

   Offering an outstanding student experience, carrying out world-leading research and working with partners to tackle health inequalities are the focus for our Faculty of Health. The faculty hosted a relaunch event this week to showcase its state-of-the-art new facilities and set out its ambitions for the coming years.

7. Provide peer-to-peer wellbeing support

   LJMU Connectors provide peer-to-peer mental wellbeing support to colleagues, at a local level, across the university.

8. Happy Lunar New Year to our LJMU community across the world

   LJMU is wishing all our students, staff and partners in 30 institutions across the globe a happy Lunar New Year to all those celebrating.

9. Celebrating Cultures Event

   The celebrating cultures event this year had India, China, Canada, Pakistan, Colombia, Nepal, England, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lesotho, Scotland, Vietnam, Nigeria, Indonesia, Greece, Italy, Bangladesh, Switzerland, Iran, Somalia and Brazil being represented. Following this event, an international student wrote a reflection on their experience in participating.
