1. Diwali 2019 starts on Sunday 27th October and lasts for five days

   Diwali is the famous festival of lights, when families and friends get together to feast and celebrate. The five day festival begins on Sunday 27th October 2019; each day has its own individual meaning and associated celebration. The third day of Diwali is regarded as the most important day. Diwali literally means a ‘row of Lights’. It is a celebration of light! It is a time filled with light and love. The festival does not follow the Gregorian but rather the Hindu calendar known as ‘Tithi,’ which is a lunar calendar. We would like to wish all our students and staff community who celebrate this festival a very happy Diwali!

2. Kasper Schmeichel talk marks 20 years of Science and Football at LJMU

   Leicester City and Danish international goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel visits students from the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

3. Our LJMU community celebrating Ramadan

   Ramadan begins on 2 April and our LJMU Equality team is sharing the support available for those celebrating plus their advice on how our LJMU community can help students and staff who may be fasting.

5. World Environment Day 2022

   Ahead of World Environment Day this Sunday (5 June), were reaffirming our commitment to green initiatives and sustainability.

6. Staff and students welcome changes to Highway Code that promote active travel

   Staff and students at LJMU have welcomed changes to the Highway Code that restructure the road hierarchy and prioritise walking and cycling.

7. Take part in a focus group with the Careers Team and get a £10 Amazon voucher

   The Careers Team would really like to hear your views on the careers services offered by the Careers Team to final year students and graduates.

8. LJMU Assessment 4 – 14 January 2022

   As we approach our assessment period early next year, this note is to provide you with important preparation information and to confirm that exams will take place in person (with the exception of Levels 3 and 4).

9. Christmas closure and support services over the festive break

   The university will close at 5pm on Thursday 23 December and reopen at 9am on Tuesday 4 January. The Student Life Building will be open 24/7 throughout the festive break including on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
