2. Liverpool announced as one of the cheapest cities for students to live

   According to new research, on behalf of the Royal Bank of Scotland, Portsmouth, Liverpool and Newcastle respectively all landed in the top three in the Student Living Index. The research takes into account the everyday cost of living and accommodation costs.

3. Students join international business leaders at Horasis congress at IFB 2016

   Students from Liverpool Business School recently joined a host of international delegates from the fields of politics, business and society to take part in the Horasis global meeting as part of the International Festival of Business (IFB) 2016.

4. Panama welcomes LJMU at world-famous canal launch

   A Liverpool delegation including Eddie Blanco-Davis, from LJMU’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology flew to Panama at the behest of the UK embassy in Panama to attend the official launch of the £3.9bn expansion of the Panama Canal.

5. Revealing 100-year global height study

   Dutch men and Latvian women are the tallest on the planet, according to the largest ever study of height around the world. The research group, which included LJMU’s Dr Lynne Boddy, conducted the study using data from most countries in the world, tracking the height of young adult men and women between 1914 and 2014.

6. LJMU Honorary Fellow enjoys gold medal success at Rio 2016

   The captain of Britain’s gold medal-winning women’s hockey team Kate Richardson-Walsh MBE is an LJMU Honorary Fellow and has arrived back in the UK after leading her team to victory in Rio.

7. Professor welcomes international delegates as ECSS President

   LJMU’s Professor of Exercise Physiology is also the incumbent President of the European College of Sport Science, and recently welcomed around 2,800 delegates from across the globe to the annual congress, this year held in Vienna.

8. Emma commended at Westminster for widening access in education

   LJMU PhD student and member of the Student Recruitment and Admissions team Emma Smith has received a commendation for her contribution to widening access at a national awards ceremony held in the Palace of Westminster recently.

9. LJMU on hand to ease NHS burden on endoscopy demand

   Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy in the UK is at its highest and continues to rise, LJMU is now aiming to meet this gap in patient need by supporting the delivery of a new course.

10. Human speech evolved from great apes

    Researchers have shown that, contrary to previous arguments, great apes do have control over their voice, and can learn how to ‘speak,’ throwing new light on the evolution of speech.
