1. Exciting development opportunity for women to undertake action learning with peers from North West universities

   We are pleased to offer this development opportunity for up to 15 women working in academic and professional services roles to take part in cross institutional action learning sets with peers from universities in the North West region. Action learning provides a unique space for women to support each other to overcome work and career related challenges. This opportunity has been taken up previously by 150 women. Participant feedback includes: it was not role specific, so there were a range of individuals with different roles/skills/perspective which enriched my experience and It provided a rare opportunity to discuss issues confidentially outside of ones own workplace which helped me to develop more self-confidence and self-awareness.

   The Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI) has been named as an official partner in the GROWTH scientific collaboration.

4. Your LJMU, Your Voice: staff survey findings

   The results of the Your LJMU, Your Voice staff survey reveal that employees consider LJMU to be a good place to work but there are clear areas for improvement. More than 1,400 staff – over 53% of our workforce – took part in the survey in May to help the university learn more about the experience of working here.

6. Submissions for the Green Gown Awards

   The university is looking for potential submissions for the Green Gown Awards, which recognise exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges.

   In support of JMSUs Sustainability Week taking place from next Monday, 3 February, the university will be trialling a new eco-friendly default internet search engine.

8. Director Ken Loach talks to students

   Legendary British film director Ken Loach joined staff and students for a screening of his 1995 film 'Land and Freedom' followed by an hour-long Q&A.

9. Screen School student hailed at international film festival

   A Screen School student has won first prize at the 2019 Pesaro Film Festival. Taking place in Pesaro, Italy, the festival recognises the talents of established and emerging filmmakers, and confers awards covering a range of areas, including a category for university students.

10. Consultation LJMU and the Atlantic Slave Economy

    In February 2019, LJMU joined the Universities Studying Slavery Consortium (USS), based at the University of Virginia.
