1. Diwali 2019 starts on Sunday 27th October and lasts for five days

   Diwali is the famous festival of lights, when families and friends get together to feast and celebrate. The five day festival begins on Sunday 27th October 2019; each day has its own individual meaning and associated celebration. The third day of Diwali is regarded as the most important day. Diwali literally means a ‘row of Lights’. It is a celebration of light! It is a time filled with light and love. The festival does not follow the Gregorian but rather the Hindu calendar known as ‘Tithi,’ which is a lunar calendar. We would like to wish all our students and staff community who celebrate this festival a very happy Diwali!

2. Foodbanks and schools benefit from LJMU PC donations

   Local foodbanks and schools are among the organisations benefiting from recycled computer equipment donated by Liverpool John Moores University.

4. LJMU Library launches new reading corner

   LJMU Library has developed a new children's reading corner, providing access to a collection of children's books. This new space provides a fun and relaxed reading area for use by students, staff, local teachers and school children.

   More than 100 schoolgirls heard from LJMU astrophysicists during a special British Science Week event that celebrated the contribution of women in STEM.

6. Trainee pharmacists speed ahead in digital practice

   Pharmacists-to-be are being trained on the world's first fully patient-controlled online health record.

7. Introducing eco-friendly search engine Ecosia

   In support of JMSUs Sustainability Week taking place from next Monday, 3 February, the university will be trialling a new eco-friendly default internet search engine.

8. LJMU and LCR collaboration creates 44 apprentices for autism charity

   LJMU has collaborated with LCR to transfer £132,000 of unspent Apprenticeship Levy to Autism Initiatives, funding 44 new apprentice care workers for the charity.

10. How is lockdown affecting our health?

    Public health experts at Liverpool John Moores University are looking into how lockdown has affected the physical and mental health of people in the North West.
