1. Your new Academic Board members

   Following the call for nominations for five vacancies on our Academic Board, the Secretariat is pleased to announce that they have filled the positions.

2. Academic Board election voting now open

   Staff have until 5pm on Thursday 14 September to vote for their preferred Academic Board candidates.

3. Your new Staff Governor Emily Walker

   Following a fortnight-long election period, Emily received the majority of votes out of the five self-nominated candidates to represent Professional Services, and will now serve on the Board for the next three years.

4. More than 120 local school pupils take part in LJMU Summer University

   Over the past month, more than 120 14- to 17-year-olds from across the UK have taken part in LJMU summer schools to inspire students from underrepresented backgrounds to consider higher education.

5. School of Education project inspiring next generation of teachers and students

   Spearheaded by School of Education lecturer, Adam Vasco, the two-year project aims to bridge the gap between school and university to ensure that people of all backgrounds, especially those from the Global Majority, have the confidence and support to choose university study.

6. Book based on Liverpool Business School shortlisted for award

   A “compelling” new book by an LJMU academic, drawing on the experiences of Liverpool Business School, has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award. The Engaged Business School by Professor Anthony Sturgess is in the running for the inaugural Management Publication of the Year 2024 award.

7. School children experience immersive technology spaces

   To support the Department for Education's STEAM agenda, the Faculty of Arts and Professional Studies, has started a programme of visits from school children across the region.

8. University Seal request form update

   The Secretariat has updated the request form to incorporate the additional stages of approval required from colleagues in finance and legal.

9. School pupils develop essential laboratory skills through Absolute Chemistry initiative

   The Absolute Chemistry team are passionate about working with schools from across the Liverpool City Region and supporting opportunities to raise their aspirations around studying science after high school.

10. Academic Board election results 2023

    A host of representatives from our faculties, along with professional services, have been elected to the Academic Board following a series of elections that took place over the past fortnight.
