  1. Bike Fix Basics Class

The Environmental Sustainability and Energy Team at LJMU have received funding from Cycling UK to carry out a number of events for the Big Bike Revival.

  2. Liverpool LASER Talks - Electric Dreaming: The ethics of Artificial Intelligence and its role in creative practice

As use of AI grows and new applications emerge, so do questions around its ethics. What are the ethical dilemmas which have emerge? How do we use AI for good? What examples are there and how do we learn more about these issues? In these LASER Talks we explore these issues from a number of perspectives including crises facing the arts sector, inclusion and the environment. Proposed solutions owe much to games culture in terms of audiences and interactive experiences. New audiences can be reached with new meaningful experiences, marginalised groups can use AI to reach beyond their challenges and entirely new approaches to protecting the natural world can emerge.

  3. Equality, diversity and inclusion in journalism teaching conference

The journalism department is holding a free one-day conference on EDI in Journalism education on June 26th. Although the conference is geared towards Journalism education, the conference is open to educators from other subject areas who will be welcome to share their research and best practice as well as benefit from transferable, practical ideas around embedding EDI in teaching, learning and assessment and creating an inclusive environment for students.

  4. Postgraduate Open Day

Thinking of going postgrad? Attend our on campus Postgraduate Open Day and get an insight into postgraduate life here at LJMU.

  5. LJMU PE, School Sport and Physical Activity Network Event

This face-to-face event is for primary and secondary teachers, Sport/PE students, trainee teachers and sports coaches working in schools. The event will: Disseminate the research activity and projects across LJMU PESSPA network Reflect upon the findings and recommendations of the Ofsted subject PE report series (Sept 2023) Celebrate collaborative activities/events.

  6. Developing the diverse workforce of the future for engineering & technology

We are excited to invite you to join us for a flagship LJMU event, Developing the diverse workforce of the future for engineering and technology, jointly organised by the IEEE UK&I Women in Engineering affinity group whose chair is based at LJMU. We are delighted to welcome international representatives from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) to join in this important conversation, as part of their 140th year celebrations. The aim of this event is to bring together key stakeholders from the university, industry, government and accreditation bodies to start the conversation on this topic and consider next steps in our goal to work with stakeholders to lead the way for diversity and inclusion in engineering and technology skills in the North West. There is an exciting opportunity to meet and network with industry and academic leaders.

  7. ARI Seminar: Nikhil Sarin (Stockholm University)

A neutron star binary merges somewhere in the Universe approximately every 10 to 1000 seconds, creating violent explosions potentially observable in gravitational waves and across the electromagnetic spectrum. The transformative coincident gravitational wave and electromagnetic observations of the binary neutron star merger GW170817 gave invaluable insights into these cataclysmic collisions and fundamental astrophysics. However, despite our high expectations, we have failed to see any other event like it. In this talk, I will highlight what we can learn from other observations of mergers seen directly in gravitational waves or indirectly as a gamma-ray burst and/or kilonova. I will also discuss the diversity in electromagnetic and gravitational-wave emission we can expect for future mergers and showcase tools to help maximally extract physics from existing and future observations.
