1. Professorship and readership conferment process

   To provide as much planning time as possible we can confirm that the LJMU professorship and readership conferment process for 2023/24 will open from 27 November 2023.

2. Student Life and Sports Building win Best New Build Project award

   LJMU’s Copperas Hill development has won an award for the Best New Build Project at the Merseyside Civic Design Awards.

3. Restrictions on using USBs for students and staff

   From 4 September students will be no longer able to use USB storage devices on LJMU equipment. This is alongside the restrictions already in place for staff.

4. Policy updates: Safeguarding, Freedom of Speech and more

   Student Advice and Wellbeing and the International team want to make staff aware in particular of an update to the Safeguarding Policy regarding under-18 international students with LJMU and collaborative partners.

5. Ice Age bone samples reveal DNA links between wolves and dogs

   An international group of geneticists and archaeologists have analysed bones samples, some provided by LJMU, that reveal the ancestry of dogs can be traced to at least two populations of ancient wolves.

6. Lecturer’s new book examines security at sports mega-events amid the pandemic

   International Relations and Politics with Sociology Lecturer, Dr Jan Ludvigsen, shared insights from his book this week with the LJMU community ahead of its release on Friday 8 April.

7. Sinuses shed light on how humans got their unique skull shape

   They are most-commonly associated with a blocked nose and headaches but the humble sinuses could hold an important key to the evolution of the human face.
