2. New study suggests explanations for usage of plesiosaurs’ long necks

   Plesiosaurs are an extinct group of marine reptiles from the age of dinosaurs who are famous for their long necks. The effect of such long necks on how these animals swam is a mystery but now computer simulations are helping LJMU scientists understand what would happen if a plesiosaur turned its head while swimming.

4. New research by Public Health Institute on children’s perceptions of electronic cigarettes

   The increasing popularity and rapid growth of electronic cigarettes has raised considerable concern about their impact on children and young people.

5. New ES1 form available for managers

   The Finance team has recently updated the ES1 form used to assess contractors against HMRCs off-payroll working rules (sometimes called IR35).

6. Celebrating 20 years of the Start-up Hub

   LJMU is celebrating 20 years of its Start-up Hub this month which has helped over 1,000 businesses and is estimated to have contributed over £20 million in income to the Liverpool City Region economy each year.

7. Call for submissions: Teaching and Learning Conference 2020

   This year's conference will take place on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June and submissions are now invited from staff and students and collaborative partner institutions, as well as other colleagues working in post-16 education.

8. Professorship and readership conferment process

   To provide as much planning time as possible we can confirm that the LJMU professorship and readership conferment process for 2023/24 will open from 27 November 2023.

   Liverpool Health Commission, an independent panel established by Liverpool John Moores University, with research expertise and support provided by the university, has been set up to investigate and analyse health care policy issues.
