1. The importance of the Navy during WW1

   The Right Honourable Lord West of Spithead delivered a Roscoe Lecture which emphasised the importance of the Navy during World War One.

2. Andrew McMillan announced winner of Guardian First Book Award 2015

   Creative Writing Lecturer, Andrew McMillan, has become the first poet to win the Guardian First Book Award with Physical, a ‘breathtaking’ collection that explores modern male anxiety in settings from the gym to northern industrial towns.

3. Judges say student will inspire others

   An ‘inspirational’ student midwife at LJMU has been awarded Student Midwife of the year award at The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Annual Midwifery Awards 2016.

4. Salters Festival of Chemistry 2016

   Over 60 school pupils from across the North West, including Merseyside, Lancashire, the Isle of Man and Colwyn Bay, went to LJMU to enjoy an exciting day in the labs, as part of the Salters' Festival of Chemistry.

5. Merseyside youngsters named Chemists of the Year

   Merseyside youngsters with a talent for Chemistry have been recognised by LJMU, receiving the title ‘Chemist of the Year.’

6. Academic Registry online training sessions

   There are lots of academic staff training opportunities still available throughout the remainder of semester one.

7. New support for staff development

   The university will shortly be introducing a new system to support you in recording and tracking performance and development conversations.

8. Dance soiree to explore ‘Growing Old in the Soviet Union’

   Participants are invited to watch a 30-minute dance following the life trajectory of two Soviet citizens and then to give views about ageing and older people as part of an LJMU History and Wellcome Trust project.

9. Armistice Day 2022 arrangements

   We will mark Armistice Day by observing a two-minute silence at 11am on Friday 11 November.
