   Researchers have shown that, contrary to previous arguments, great apes do have control over their voice, and can learn how to ‘speak,’ throwing new light on the evolution of speech.

6. Astrophysics Research Institute PhD student receives only UK award from NASA

   LJMU has the highest number of Hubble Fellowships in the UK, as one of their latest awards goes to an Astrophysics Research Institute student straight out of her PhD. Dr Emma Beasor was also the only UK student awarded a Fellowship this year.

   Liverpool Screen School lecturer Peter Woodbridge has been named among the most pioneering figures in the British digital and tech industry.

8. Computer scientists trial rapid information system at Merseyrail stations

   Merseyrail staff will be the first in the country to have delay updates in the palm of their hand.

   Scientists from LJMU, working with external researchers, have developed examine the evolutionary history of sauropod dinosaurs using computer models.
